Happy Birthday Kim IL-Sung...

North Korea recently celebrated its 100 year anniversary of their Great Leader, Kim IL-Sung. What turned out to be an epic birthday party, was also an insight to North Korea as another world. Like most communist countries there's a strange juxtaposition between the old and new. It's almost like this film takes place in another dimension, you don't know if its the past or future.

Buffy Vs. Aliens...

Free comic book day is coming up on  Saturday May 5th. Is Dark Horse hinting of a crossover between the 2 franchisees? It wouldn't be the first; Aliens Vs. Predator, Robocop Vs. Terminator, and Batman Vs. Predator to name a few. Why Aliens though? Wouldn't the Predator want a piece of that Slayer action? Don't forget free comic book day is May 5th.

Jellyfish Shut Down Power Plant / Queen Latifah Gets Revenge...

Recently Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant had to shut down due to a jellyfish like organism. The organisms, called salp, were apparently attaching themselves to the intake structures keeping the plant from cooling down. This begs the questions: Diablo Canyon II...Why can't you be more like Diablo Canyon I? BTW, that was my Simpson reference of the week...

Porn movies have come a long way. Gone are the cheesy music and lame plots. They've now been upgraded to mid-nineties effects and faux English accents. In this XXX parody, director Joss Whedon Josh Wheldon conjures up a big budget to make this a decent re-boot of one of my all time favorite TV series.

Elvis Costello...

So I got to see a phenomenal show last night at Hard Rock Live. Elvis Costello and the Imposters preformed their Revolver Tour. Elvis Costello sounded incredible, and the show was full of high energy fun. At one point Elvis Costello went into the crowd and pulled concert goers on to the stage to help select the next song to be played. Sadly my video recorder was not working so I've decided to post one of my favorite Elvis Costello performances instead.

Filmmaker Frans Hofmeester spent twelve years filming his daughter, from birth to present. Shooting a few moments a week, he has created this amazingly adorable video of his daughter. The end result is truly touching.

The Mermaids Of Weeki Wachee Springs...

These are some amazing photos by Annie Collinge. They were taken at Weeki Wachee Springs in Florida. The mermaids would do a 30 minute set without the benefit of any scuba gear, using only hoses at the bottom of the lagoon to take a breath. Weeki Wachee Springs was one of the original Old Florida tourist attractions located just north of the Tampa area. They've since lost private ownership and are now run by Florida Department of Environmental Protection. Click the link after the photos to see the gallery.
